@sugorokujapan: 【Miyajima|宮島】 Hiroshima has a special connection to my family. My grandfather was from Hiroshima, and my father spent part of his childhood here. Since my father had rarely had the chance to return over the years, this time my father, my brother and I traveled through Hiroshima together, retracing some of our family roots. After exploring Hiroshima City, we continued to Miyajima. Officially called Itsukushima, the island has been regarded as sacred since ancient times. Itsukushima Shrine flourished under Taira no Kiyomori, the powerful 12th-century leader of the Taira clan, who helped develop it into the magnificent form known today. I also had no idea there would be deer here. Seeing them wandering freely around the island, just like in Nara, was an unexpected and peaceful surprise. But the most unforgettable sight was the great torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine standing majestically in the sea. Surrounded by mountains and the Seto Inland Sea, I could understand why Miyajima has long been celebrated as one of the Three Scenic Views of Japan. Visiting it together with my father and brother, while reconnecting with our family’s roots in Hiroshima, made this more than just another beautiful destination. ・・┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ・・ 📍 Spot|Miyajima / Itsukushima Shrine 🗾 Area|Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima ✨ Highlight|The great torii, sacred island scenery & history of the Taira clan 🚃 Access|About 10 min by ferry from Miyajimaguchi ・・┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ・・ For more travel/culture stories from Japan @sugorokujapan #Miyajima #Itsukushima #Hiroshima #JapanTravel #Japan
