The men that ran did so in honor of women in their lives who are unable to do so themselves. They didn’t get an official timed spot or any awards, so nothing was taken from the women competing. The only downside is that they were still there around women who were wanting it to be a 100% women’s event.

I’m sure there are outliers who did this for selfish reasons but there are several men running this for their significant other or partners who either can’t run for some reason due to health or disability or have died and they are running it for remembrance/tribute. Also it was open to everyone.
