'Impossible to imagine a more horrific scene' Ten men have been jailed for a combined 130 years for a house fire attack that left a mum in a coma for two months and a child with significant burns. Shortly before 11pm on 16 December 2021, a group of men smashed the downstairs windows of a house on Beverley Drive in Stoke-on-Trent and poured petrol into the hallway and outside the living room window. A woman, 31, and a girl, 13, were inside and had to jump out of an upstairs window. According to police, the mum was hit on the head and set on fire. She suffered burns to 65% of her body along with broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and a cut to her liver. The woman spent two months in a coma and will need medical treatment for life. The child suffered 15% burns to her arm and needed skin grafts. Some of the men faced trial in February, while others entered guilty pleas before it began. On Friday, seven of the men were sentenced at Leicester Crown Court. Three others had already been sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The men, who faced charges ranging from violent disorder to attempted murder, received sentences ranging from suspended jail time and community work to 34 years. The court heard how, on the day of the fire, a fight broke out between Hussain, Abbas, Bilal Ahmed, and Kashif Ahmed on Kildare Street, Longton, which resulted in Kashif Ahmed being stabbed in the shoulder. Several hours later a gang went to the two-bed property on Beverley Drive and demanded to speak to Hussain. The “revenge attack” was then carried out. Hussain’s ex-partner was relaxing at home at the time, unaware of the earlier altercation, and her teenage daughter was on her phone upstairs. Hussian only visited the house periodically, the court heard. Judge Mayo said it is “virtually impossible to imagine a more horrific scene” than what the victims faced that night. The sentences: Bilal Ahmed, 27, was jailed for 15 months, suspended for 18 months, and 100 hours of unpaid work Naveed Hussain, 32, was sentenced to 22 months in prison, suspended for 18 months Kashif Ahmed, 26, was jailed for 48 weeks Tayyeb Majeed, 24, was jailed for 10-and-a-half years Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, 25, was jailed for 11-and-a-half years Riyadh Iqbal, 23, was jailed for 12-and-a-half years Lukman Khan, 25, was jailed for 12-and-a-half years Haris Mahmood, 22, was jailed for 24 years and nine months Ali Abbas, 23, was jailed for 25 years Shakil Uddin, 23, was jailed for 34 years #5news #fire
