If you’re revising for your GCSEs and you’re not using YouTube, you could be missing out on one of the best FREE revision resources available. 👀 I achieved 999888877 in my GCSEs, including Grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry and French and Grade 8s in Maths, Physics, Geography and Italian. These are some of the channels that helped me understand difficult topics and prepare for my exams. 🎓 The key is to use YouTube actively. Watching hours of videos without testing yourself can make you feel like you know the content when you actually don’t. Here are some of my favourites 👇🏽 🧪 FREESCIENCELESSONS One of my favourites for GCSE Science. The videos are short, clear and straight to the point. Use them alongside your specification. Choose a weak topic, watch the video and then test yourself using flashcards or exam questions. ➗ THE GCSE MATHS TUTOR An amazing resource for GCSE Maths, especially when you need someone to walk you through a particular question. Watch an example, understand the method and then attempt questions independently. Maths is all about practice! 📈 🔬 COGNITO Another brilliant GCSE Science resource covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The diagrams and animations make difficult concepts easier to understand. It’s great for learning a topic or revisiting something you didn’t understand in class. But don’t stop after watching — test yourself afterwards! 🧠 CSNEWBS If you take GCSE Computer Science, CSNewbs has lots of useful content covering key areas of the course. Combine videos with active recall, flashcards and exam questions to make sure you actually remember the content. The biggest mistake you can make is thinking: Watching a video = knowing the topic. It doesn’t. The video should be the START of your revision session. Try this: 1️⃣ Choose ONE weak topic from your specification. 2️⃣ Watch a video explaining it. 3️⃣ Close the video and write down everything you remember. 4️⃣ Check what you missed. 5️⃣ Make flashcards for key information. 6️⃣ Complete exam questions. 7️⃣ Mark them carefully. 8️⃣ Revisit the topic later. That turns a short YouTube video into an effective revision session. 📚 And USE YOUR SPECIFICATION! Your exam-board specification tells you what you can be assessed on. Work through it and RAG-rate your knowledge: 🔴 RED = I don’t understand it. 🟠 AMBER = I understand some but need more practice. 🟢 GREEN = I can confidently explain it and answer questions. Prioritise your red topics, then your amber topics. Don’t spend all your revision time repeatedly covering topics you already know just because they feel comfortable. You also don’t need to revise for hours every day. A focused session where you learn a weak topic, actively recall the information and complete exam questions can be much more effective than hours of highlighting notes or passively watching videos. Ask yourself: Can I explain this without my notes? Can I answer exam questions on it? Do I know the key terminology? Could I teach it to someone else?
