One of the strongest concerns raised was the alleged conduct of GoldBod task forces, with buyers claiming that frequent interventions and operations by the task forces are making it increasingly difficult for them to conduct their legitimate businesses. According to the participants, the situation is not only affecting individual buyers but could have wider implications for the grassroots gold-trading sector, particularly in mining communities where gold buying remains a major economic activity. Some participants also pointed out that several members of the association are themselves supporters and stakeholders of the governing administration, and warned that continued dissatisfaction within the sector could create political consequences if their concerns are not addressed. The association is therefore calling directly on GoldBod CEO Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi to listen to the concerns of gold buyers, engage them more extensively and review policies and enforcement measures that they believe are negatively affecting their operations. The buyers insist that they are not opposed to regulation or efforts to sanitize the gold sector. Rather, they want a system that protects the integrity of the industry while also allowing legitimate gold buyers to operate, survive and contribute to the economy.
