Amazing. And in the “nobody knows her name” department I present another exceptional Canadian woman, Dr Lily May Perry (1895-1992). Born in Havelock New Brunswick, she earned her doctorate and became a botanist at Harvard (University of Ottawa turned her down because of her gender). Dr Perry has the legacy of authoring the third highest number of land plant species among female scientists, in total naming 414 species.

I am so saddened by how many times women have been shut out of history... as a little girl this would have been so inspiring for this grandma.

She took the Canadian spirit to the next level. No precise number exists for how many times Canadians have been told something couldn't be done and then accomplished it. The phenomenon is better understood quintessential “Canadian ingenuity” or “quiet determination.”

So many many women never get credit for their amazing and awesome contributions to the sciences, education, technology etc etc etc. Hopefully these wrongs will be righted as time goes by!
