Back in the day 70's early 80's my mom was on food stamps. She gave my sister and I a $1 stamp. We each bought a 25cent candy bar. Gave her back the 75 cents change. That gave her 1.50 for toilet paper or dish soap or laundry soap. that woman knows how to budget.

you know what growing up in poverty means in Ohio as a child, particularly with a disabled parent? SSI was roughly $850, TANF was $220. We got less than $300 in snap. A 13 year old budgeting $8, well balanced family meals. that's what that means.
