Connecticut, USA — June 25, 2026 An off-duty emergency-room nurse in Connecticut stopped at a serious car accident and immediately began treating a driver who was in cardiac arrest. According to Waterbury Hospital, ER nurse Paige Parkhouse-Baughn witnessed the crash while she was off duty on June 25. When she reached the vehicle, she found the driver without a pulse and in full cardiac arrest. Despite being six months pregnant, Parkhouse-Baughn began performing CPR and continued for more than 30 minutes, until emergency personnel arrived. The driver was then airlifted to a hospital for further treatment. Doctors later discovered that the driver had a blockage in the right coronary artery, which had caused the cardiac arrest. Waterbury Hospital reported that the driver was doing well following the incident. A Nurse Who Didn't Hesitate The hospital said Parkhouse-Baughn's emergency training and clinical experience allowed her to respond immediately rather than waiting for professional responders to arrive. Her actions were later brought to the hospital's attention by the driver's family, who wanted to make sure the nurse received recognition for what she had done. Parkhouse-Baughn originally joined Waterbury Hospital as a Patient Care Associate before earning her nursing degree and becoming an emergency-room nurse.
