@libearies: Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818) By Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) Painted around 1818 by the German Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich, Wanderer above the Sea of Fog shows a man standing on a jagged rocky precipice. His back faces us. He wears a dark green overcoat and holds a walking stick in his right hand while his wind-tossed hair hints at the cold air of the mountains. Before him stretches a vast landscape swallowed by a thick sea of fog.
