no it was actually not. T-14 was better in every way if they could maintain new engine and to put 152mm gun on a turret, because of that right now T-14 could possibly used like artillery more effectively as other tanks. T-14 also have enough armor in roof to defend against drones. My beloved Object 477A "Nota" and Object 195...

Why would they chose the 640? Worse in every way and they can't use it's chassis to form a family like they did with the Armata family (T-14, T-15...)

каким бы фаном 640 я не был, у него были теже проблемы что и у обт до него, единственный плюс был в орудии и вынесеном бк, это не решало ни проблем живучести, ни подвижности т.к и корпус и трансмисия были от т80, т14 же напротив имеет чуть ли не лучшую защиту экипажа что я видел, каз, дз, бронекапсула, все это при умелом использовании очень и очень увеличит время жизни танка, возможность утсановки 152 мм орудия и хорошая трансмисия так же увеличивает огневые параметры и параметры перемещения, по факту т14 лучше, но выпустили его позновато, да и концепция в последние года поменялась(640 еще хуже к ней готов), если армату допилить то в целом она сможет отвечать духу времени, но это тупо дороже чем модифицировать и делать говеные т72

the issue is, obj 640 was never meant to be developed. at an interview with sergei mayev, he discussed that 640 was a "smokescreen" tank. it was set up to "create a sense of competition on one side", to distract others from the improvement-88 program.
