no tail rotor essentially means you are turning yourself into a one big plan propeller to fly, so odds are he is at a crazy angle and flying FAST

Helicopters can fly straight over a certain speed. The tail rotor is critical at low speeds. He would have had to skid and glide in to stay above the speed that would cause him to spin around violently
