A shopkeeper fought off a robber swinging a machete at him in a “frightening” robbery at a mini mart in Nottinghamshire. CCTV footage shows the robber chopping at the worker who defends himself with the piece of sporting equipment at the Crest Mini Market in Bestwood at 9.10am. The robber later loses his footing as it appears someone outside the store sprays him with a fire extinguisher. The thief eventually leaves the shop with a bottle of vodka. Police on Tuesday released footage of the 4 July robbery as they urged the public to help them catch the offender. Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information given exclusively to the charity which leads to his arrest and conviction. Detective Constable Thomas Lowe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an unpleasant ordeal for the victim, and we are determined to find the person responsible.” He urged the public to help police “take this offender off our streets”. Lydia Patsalides, East Midlands Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, said: “This was a frightening experience for someone simply doing their job in a shop at the heart of the community. We know it will have unsettled people living and working nearby. “Somebody out there knows who did this. It might be something you saw that morning, something you’ve heard since, or a nagging feeling about someone you know. “That tattoo may well be the detail that jogs the memory.
