How to spend a morning on the Upper East Side this month 📌 Use our itinerary to spend an arts-filled morning on the Upper East Side, with a 🥐 stop and a dinosaur sighting along the way! 🎨 Start your morning at Salon 94 to see “Comfort Zones,” British artist Anthea Hamilton’s first solo gallery exhibition in the US. Spanning three floors, the show pairs Hamilton’s work with pieces by the late Italian designer Gaetano Pesce. On view through 10/24. 🏛️ Then cross the street to the Guggenheim for “Taryn Simon: Father Country I Do Love You,” the first time the museum has given its entire rotunda to a photography-based artist and the largest debut of new work in its history. 🥐 Take a mid-morning break at Marcel, the new patisserie inside Sotheby’s. Enjoy breakfast in the dining room surrounded by art from Sotheby’s, or grab something to go from the patisserie! 🦖 While you’re at Sotheby’s, step inside to meet Jodi, a Nanotyrannus skeleton and one of only three known to exist. Measuring about 6.5 feet tall when mounted and 19.6 feet long, Jodi is the first of its kind to come to market since scientists confirmed last fall that Nanotyrannus is not an adolescent T. rex, but a new and distinct genus of dinosaur. The exceptional adult specimen comprises approximately 190 fossil bone elements. On view through 10/27. 🍂 Walk through Central Park as the leaves start to change! 🖼️ Then head to East 64th Street to explore contemporary art at Lévy Gorvy Dayan and see “Wangari Mathenge: Re-membering,” the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Probing how culture, memory and landscape are made and unmade, the presentation marks Mathenge’s first public exhibition of sculpture and debuts five new paintings. 🚢 Finish just across the street at the Titanic-inspired Halloween townhouse on East 64th Street between Fifth and Madison, where skeletons dressed in period gowns, pearls and top hats fill the display, a ghostly band plays violin and cello, and the captain keeps watch above the front door. 💌 Subscribe to our newsletter to never miss a recommendation.
