@stabbinstylistpodcast: Her name was Colleen Slemmer. She was 19 years old. In January 1995, Colleen was living at the Knoxville Job Corps Center in Tennessee. On the evening of January 12, she left the center with three other students. They returned later that night. Colleen did not. By the following morning, she had been found. Three people were ultimately convicted in connection with Colleen’s death. Christa Pike and Tadaryl Shipp were convicted of first-degree murder, while Shadolla Peterson pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. More than 30 years later, this case is back in the national conversation as Pike’s scheduled lethal injection is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. 🚨UPDATE 🚨 SEPTEMBER 30: Approximately one hour before Christa Pike’s scheduled execution this morning, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued a stay, halting the execution while the court considers further legal proceedings in her case.
