@charlieryanroams: Glacier National Park completely changed what I think a road trip can be. Usually the drive is just how you get somewhere. In Glacier, the drive is part of the experience. Going to the Sun Road is only about 50 miles, but it took us most of the day because we kept stopping. One overlook turns into another, then you see a lake, a waterfall, wildlife, or a trail you want to explore. You really cannot rush it. A few things I learned along the way: • Start early if you can, especially in the summer when parking fills up quickly. • Give yourself way more time than Google Maps says you need. You will want to stop constantly. • Do not skip the east side of the park. Many Glacier felt completely different from the west side and the drive over there was one of my favorite parts. • Going to the Sun Road is seasonal, so always check current road conditions before you go. We went in late September and I honestly think fall might be my favorite time to visit. The east side was almost completely golden, while the Highline had so much red and yellow. Then you drive back toward the west side and it feels like a completely different landscape. Glacier has officially ruined me for normal road trips because now I expect the drive itself to be this beautiful.
