I think most scientists who worked on anything that might even remotely progress it had good intentions. The problem is that the slippery slope with eugenics starts almost immediately. There almost isn't a chance for good intentioned gene editing to exist on its own.

not polish, ukrainian, or hungarian. but im an indian immigrant who has education (cant speak on how much education these people have tho...) its not enough to google definitions of eugenics and say thats what it is. Its eugenics rhetoric to suggest any individual or group of people should not reproduce. because what happens when you do that? you invite people to pressure or harass or abuse them for doing so. you also invite policies to be made. eugenics is not a literal "passing on genetics" i guess every non-german blue eyed blonde had defective genes? of course not. every poor person has defective genes? of course not. every muslim and jew had defective genes? of course not. every black person has defective genes? of course not. and before we developed technology, we'd have no way of predicting what kind of genetic risks a child has so to prevent someone from bearing children then was disgusting. the reason you didnt want them bearing children was because you thought that class, that race, that religion, that group, did not deserve to continue living. its not "neutral" deciding who can and should give birth will never be neutral. thats like deciding who deserves to eat or who deserves love or companionship. nobody gets to decide that it simply happens or it doesnt and the circumstances and outcomes differ in ways you csnt reasonably predict. and you can say "oh well a child of X parent would suffer" oh so because someone suffers they dont deserve to live? you'd have to wipe out the planet except a few sheltered nepo babies. also, if they suffered when alive, and you dont believe in the afterlife, why does it matter? either they died in abortion or never existed or they died after "suffering" but theyre dead either way. the reason suffering becomes morally charged is when someone inflicts that suffering or doesnt remove the cause of suffering if they could. but if its a matter of unlucky circumstances then what? and if you believe in an afterlife thats even more reason to want a child to live. also, genetics always work with the environment. you cant separate environment from genetics if you tried. so its not a guarantee at all.
