@gbnews: Sophie Winkleman says the amount of time children spend looking at screens is "completely indefensible." One of the largest studies ever conducted on children's screen time has concluded that higher usage can significantly impact a young person's wellbeing more than being born into poverty. Researchers noted that these effects are similar to or greater than other major factors linked to child development and mental health, including household wealth, parenting styles, and premature birth. It suggests that spending more time on gaming, social media, and streaming services can also lead to lower academic achievement and language development issues. Speaking to GB News Breakfast, the actress and patron of Close Screens Open Minds said the study doesn't surprise her. #Children #Parent #ScreenTime #GBNews
Yet all schools now move to screens for reading and homework!!

They've said this about video games and TV before, as long as the content is moderated it's fine

I'm a hardware and software technician by trade, I live around electronics, technology and software.
When I can, I completely shut off from everything and read a book or go for a walk in the woods (away from busy roads and areas).
I cannot agree more with this statement. Let your children be board than give them a screen. Give them books, toys, puzzles or anything buildable that requires thought or imagination.
I spent years volunteering at a supervised youth activity and play centre; sadly the government closed all the ones in my region down, but we need this kind of stuff back.

Lack of screen time is what prevented me getting into my career earlier in life despite my constant desire to learn, if school had focused on my interest I might have started developing software at 16 instead of mid 20s, but that's poverty for you!!

All of my son's homework is on his phone even though it's proven that learning this way is far less effective.

I would do nothing but watch TV and play video games, as a child, not interested in toys, I have 12 GCSEs, 2 a levels and a BA Hons Degree… imagine how well I would have done if my parents forced me to play toys instead, how dare they ruin my education by giving me a screen to watch and play on!

We limit screen time for both our kids. Something realised this summer is kids aren’t the same as what me and my mates were, we grew up in the 80’s/90’s so playing out was all we had but what a life it was! I was trying to get my son out every day, say to him to knock for his mates which he did do but each of them either said on the doorstep “let’s go online and chat while we play” or after 20 minutes say they’re bored and go back inside and jump on the PS5. It’s sad to see, I feel like they’re missing out on so much but trying to get your child to get out and about is a great intention but when his mates aren’t being bought up that way they’ve got no choice

You can’t teach your children something that you don’t do yourself and most of us parents are using technology to wind down but also learning the downfalls also. Let’s teach our kids what we want to teach ourselves and if you don’t live what you preach why would your children listen to you. Let’s bear in mind it is the next generation.
