WSDOT is preparing to replace the aging Highway 2 trestle, the critical connection between Everett and communities across eastern Snohomish County. Here are the details: • ⚠️ WSDOT says the existing trestle has earthquake vulnerabilities and growing traffic problems. • 🚗 The corridor experiences significant daily congestion, especially during peak commute times. • 🚌 The current structure also has limited space for transit and bicycle infrastructure. • 🏗️ WSDOT expects to reveal its preferred replacement design this October or November. • 💰 The entire project is currently estimated to cost around $2 BILLION. • 🤝 Funding could include federal, state, city and county money, with a potential public-private partnership also being explored. • 🚧 Construction could begin as early as 2031, with the full project potentially taking up to a decade to complete.
