At this point I’m not sure if Hoyo is just good at writing lore and terrible at storytelling, and/or they honestly think their player base is dumb enough or just don’t care about the inconsistent actions and presentations of these characters just as long as they’re pretty and cool to play. So many people keep screaming this is a story game and the story doesn’t make any freaking sense! How is it not obvious to everyone that the darn characters are blatantly getting rewritten, watered down so they can be playable??? It makes the Traveler look like a hypocrite, and makes several of the Fatui Harbingers directionless hypocrites as well.

Stuff like this is why it annoys me so much when people say that colombina being evil was a "headcannon", from what we knew about the harbingers colombina being evil or at the very least morally grey is what was expected of her, not a random, baseless thought somebody pulled out of their ass/got from a hoyofair animation (which these ideas predate the hoyofair animations aswell). When Id say our best idea of what colombina couldve been like pre-nod krai was dottore, arlecchino and maybe capitano it makes so much sense for her to be an antagonist to us, or at the very least something akin to arlecchino where we do kinda get along/work together but shes still presented as an antagonist in a way.

I wish that hoyo could just choose if they are evil or not. They are trying so hard to have both and it’s making them all seem like they are dumb. Like watch the tsaritsa say she always hated dottore like girl U HIRED HIM!!!!

I just dont really understand the reasoning behind them being an unethical organization in the first place. Like why were delusions given out in Inazuma that ultimately killed undeserving people? What purpose does heinous acts like that serve in the Tsaritsa's plan to defy the Heavenly Principles? I wish they would explain stuff like that instead of brushing it aside saying they were "morally gray before and now they're on our side, so it's chill" To me it just seems like the evil acts they were committing had no real purpose other than to have antagonists present before the reveal of the Shades

this is MOST DEFINITELY so they can make these characters playable. Its especially obvious when looking at sandrone and columbina, columbina who was teased as creepy and unsettling was suddenly this ’poor weak moon goddess’ she was definitely rewritten and anyone that she wasnt is wrong bc IT WAS CONFIRMED BY THE GAME DEVS THAT NOD KRAI WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE! Columbina leaned HEAVILY towards angel factors not to mention during her time in the fatui from what we can see during signoras funeral she doesnt have ANY symbolism towards the moon her design is completely stripped of it. And sandrone who in her character before nodkrai was supposed to be INSANE she is said to have ripped out a mans tongue and tortured him so badly his mind was left completely broken JUST for botching a mission and destroying research she wanted for her own gain she in wanderers voiceline is mentioned to have a terrible personality and care for nothing other than her own research which is evident isnt true when we see her interact with sandrone rosaline and arlecchino. And arlecchino oh dear arlecchino so beautifully written only to be BOTCHED when nodkrai came out in her voiceline about sandrone she says she doesnt care much about her and does not see her much at all and says she is extreme in her methods but then turns around and goes to her teaparty to ’comfort’ her despite not caring for her at all. Its clear genshin is trying to rewrite the fatui to make them more likeable the same thing with the tsaritsa saying she cannot stand children suffering yet under her decree let children be forced into soldiers at the house of the hearth when the previous knave was still in charge there

I knew from the moment the tsaritsa said she didn’t stand for children losing their childhoods bc like literally everything we know about the fatui and their methods says the complete opposite, in fact they prey on how innocent and naive children are and the bad situations they’re put into a lot (Childe and the Fontaine siblings are a prime example of this.)

I wish Columbina wasn't a Harbinger, let alone the 3rd one, if she was supposed to be the character she became. I wish the 3rd Harbinger was a strange being that no one really knows the intentions of, maybe related to Columbina, but not er.

I actually really like the idea of the Fatui achieving their goals via unethical practices, but with the condition that we actually get to see the negative effects of their actions and how that affects their relationship with the public/traveler/other characters. Which… it doesn’t really show much of.

gosh I hate that in genshin as soon as a character becomes playable their bad actions are immediately forgiven or they had a "sad backstory" to justify their bad actions and the game pins all the blame on the NPCs, they make NPCs true evil and the worst characters in the game because at the end of the day they are NPCs and won't make money for them so that's fine🥹

its like suddenly the players have forgotten the Fatui causing issues in Mondstadt, and Diluc's entire backstory, nc the story doesnt want to let the Fatui be morally Grey, they HAVE to have secretly been 'the good guys' and all the bad things they've done are just under the rug in the corner, dont look.

i feel like the fact that since the beginning one of the main npc groups you fight are literally fatui soldiers and the ominous introductions they all have as harbingers is enough to imply they’re villains. as a 1.0 player they were always like, not the main villains but definitely evil

The Fatui are poorly written likely due to being passed around by a team of writers who wanted different things for the overall story, having no hard bound story, or them being too antagonistic/morally evil deemed not marketable from a character pulling stand point. It's frustrating because in making the Fatui's crimes hold no weight it ends up leaving so so many character's, places, and plot points unfulfilled or hollow in meaning. Like at the end of the day so many actions the Fatui as a whole took do not add up in a "for the greater good" narative.

I definitely feel like genshin wants to have its cake and eat it to. The Fatui have been generally antagonistic for at the least for the last few nations, the traveler has no reason to so much as tolerate them much less act buddy-buddy with them, and yet, there’s the traveler having tea with them and laughing the day away. Mind you, the Fatui essentially tried to wipe out Liyue, that would’ve at least been the result of their actions without interference on our parts. I agree with the sentiment that the Fatui don’t need need to be “villains” so much as they need to be treated like the “morally grey” people that they are. It would match the same color as their goal tbh. The actions of the heavenly principles are complicated, so those who cry hearsay in their name must also be complicated.

Dude they are straight up just retconning past things fatui did just to make the Tsaritsa look righteous "doing things for the greater good" 💔💔 at least make them hypocrites on purpose to make it interesting but they're GENUINELY saying shit like "They gave out delusions to ppl who willingly wanted them" ignoring that they were literally scamming and making ppl take them in inazuma (mind you they have been doing all that since before - Diluc's dad was also caught up in that). Arleccihno striking a deal with the Tsaritsa to stop house of hearth from exploiting children, it sounds all well and good if you just ignore that Arleccihno helped in gr0oming of those children too (she struck this deal for participating in the experiment, which she could've done easily before?? why now all of a sudden??) it all seems like cooking bs in a kettle atp

I'm seeing a lot of people not get what what is wrong with what Sandrone said about Dottore so let me explain a little: she didn’t outright call him subhuman in the cn version. BUT she DID call him in the cn version he got called a brute and a slur in China that is mainly used towards people of the Middle East, which could translate to subhuman, but I do not know the direct translation to it. I also wanna bring up the fact that hoyo has made all of their white or Asian passing characters, good except, the Middle East inspired man..
