Replying to @stephanie 🩷✨ One of my most-asked questions is: ✨ “How do you get your buttercream so smooth?” ✨ Answer time! 👩‍🍳🫶 • I use American buttercream (my recipe and full tutorial are linked in my bio!). • Instead of frosting the cake in sections with a spatula, I fully cover the cake using a piping bag technique. • Applying buttercream evenly over the entire cake creates a much smoother surface that’s easier to work with and helps prevent patchy or uneven areas. • Next, I use an offset spatula and gently “see-saw” along the sides of the cake to push out any trapped air bubbles or gaps. At this stage, the goal is simply full coverage—not perfection just yet! • For the top of the cake, my left hand turns the cake turntable while my right hand holds the offset spatula at a slight angle. Use light, gentle pressure—no need to be heavy-handed. 😊 • When you’re ready to smooth the cake with a scraper, make sure the bottom edge of the scraper stays flush with the cake board. This helps maintain even pressure all the way around and prevents creating uneven spots. • Once you’ve achieved a fairly smooth surface, run your scraper under warm (not hot) water and dry it completely. Continue smoothing the cake gently. The warmth slightly softens the buttercream, creating that silky-smooth, almost glossy finish. • To sharpen the top edge, hold your offset spatula at a slight upward angle toward yourself and pull from the outer edge of the cake inward toward the center. And that’s it! ✨ I hope this helps make your next cake a little smoother. Happy baking! 🫶🎂 #buttercream #bakingtip #buttercreamrecipe #cakedecorating #cakeoftheday
