@thehouseofscorpio: One thing I've had to unlearn through my deconstruction, is how normal it was to promise children eternal rewards and eternal consequences before they were even old enough to understand what any of it meant. There's something deeply uncomfortable about asking a kid to make spiritual commitments based on the promise of heaven, the fear of hell, or the approval of the adults around them. I don't think faith, spirituality, or religion are inherently bad. I think people should be free to explore whatever path feels meaningful to them. What feels extra icky to me is how quickly natural curiosity gets replaced with certainty before a kid even has the chance to ask a questions, develop critical thinking skills, or decide what they actually believe. Children deserve room to grow into themselves! I was denied that room. A childs spirituality should belong to them, not to fear, obligation, or promises they were too young to fully understand. #fyp #exevangelical #deconstructiontiktok #baptism #witchesoftiktok

I was baptized Catholic as a baby and raised through all the sacraments including confirmation at age 18. Then I moved out of my parent’s home and deconstructed. Then when I later had a sick newborn, I fell prey to the evangelical church and was baptized again. After raising my son in the church for 18 years and realizing God can’t heal anyone, I deconstructed again. You know the saying: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I’m permanently decon’d now.

My catholic, Mexican mother forced me to attend all the classes my whole life and do confirmation at 15. She literally said, you can do whatever you want after. I was like… doesn’t that defeated the purpose? 🤷🏻‍♀️Surprise surprise, following that ceremony, my gay ass never stepped foot back in a church ever again. ✨
