There’s nothing more comforting than a warm bowl of homemade Sri Lankan-style marrow bone soup. Rich, hearty and packed with deep flavour, this soup is slow cooked with aromatic spices until the marrow bones are tender and the broth becomes beautifully flavourful. I love adding mixed pulses and plenty of vegetables to make it extra hearty. You can use whatever vegetables you have at home, such as carrots, celery or potatoes, along with your choice of pulses. For a slightly richer and creamier finish, some people like to stir in a little coconut milk towards the end. Serve it piping hot with Sri Lankan roast paan or roast bread for the perfect comforting meal. It’s simple, nourishing and full of homemade goodness, and every spoonful is so satisfying. Ingredients 1 kg marrow bones, beef or mutton 2 tbsp oil 5–6 garlic cloves 5–6 shallots or a small onion A small piece of ginger A few curry leaves 2 tbsp black peppercorns 1 tbsp cumin seeds 2 green chillies, optional 1 small piece of cinnamon stick 3–4 cardamom pods 1 large onion, sliced 1 large tomato, chopped ½ tsp turmeric powder 1 tbsp salt 1–2 cups vegetables of your choice ½ cup mixed pulses Water, as needed Method Crush the garlic, shallots or onion, ginger, curry leaves, black peppercorns and cumin seeds together. If you like, add the green chillies as well. Set aside. Heat the oil in a large pot. Add the crushed mixture, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods and sliced onion. Sauté until the onion softens and everything becomes fragrant. Add the chopped tomato and marrow bones. Add the turmeric and salt, then add water as needed. Cover and cook on low heat for about 3 hours, or pressure cook until the marrow bones are well cooked and tender. Once the marrow bones are cooked, add 1–2 cups of your choice of vegetables and ½ cup of mixed pulses. Continue cooking until the vegetables and pulses are fully cooked. Serve hot and enjoy. If you have any doubts, drop them in the comments I’ll reply to all of you ❤️ If there’s any recipe you’d like to see next, let me know as well I’d love to make it for you Follow for more delicious recipes! #soup #srilankanfood #srilankan #collagen #bonebroth

So this is my cousin Richie today is his 33rd birthday. His grandfather and my grandmother are brother and sister, and they lived together in their later years, so we became close as kids growing up at the same house, when we went to visit our grandparents. We both followed the same path so to speak and it definitely shows on our skin. A little over 10 years ago the top of Richard’s ear was split by a gunshot wound that I cleaned up in a gas station bathroom. They shot the vehicle over 10 times from behind, and I was the only one in the backseat at the time. How the bullets never hit me, I’ll never know but I looked up and I saw the entire back of the passenger seat torn apart from bullets and my cousin grabbing his ear and back. Thankfully, his ear was only split at the top, and his back was only minorly wounded but badly if that makes sense. Honestly, we never went to the hospital because me and him had warrants for felony charges. I was about 25 at the time and sadly already a father so I say this to any young homies going through it. One day it will all be over if you let it. All of the time you spent doing bad, you might have to do that times 10 on the good side just to make up for what you did. This is a story that took over 10 years to talk about. Imagine what I don’t talk about. Today I was proud to hear him tell me how much he has changed his life, and he is chasing a whole other dream. I can honestly say I was shocked, but not surprised, because he’s a bright guy all around and he just had to go through it all and two God works miracles in ways we will never understand. He told me he was proud of me and that he wants to go on tour with me, I told him I’ll think about it 😅 Once again, thank you guys. for accepting me for who I am and what I have come from. I can’t wait to see you guys on tour. Tickets are still available on my website link is in the bio 🤙🏽
