@konah619: This looks like something straight out of a fantasy movie—but it’s a real photograph. 🌕🏔️⛪ Italian photographer Valerio Minato spent six years trying to capture this incredibly precise alignment of the Moon, Monviso mountain, and the Basilica of Superga near Turin, Italy. After five attempts were ruined by bad weather, the conditions finally came together on December 15, 2023. The photograph is even more remarkable because the Moon was a thin crescent, yet a long exposure revealed the faintly illuminated portion of its dark side. This phenomenon is known as Earthshine, sometimes called the da Vinci glow—sunlight reflected from Earth onto the Moon and back toward us. And that enormous-looking Moon? It isn't actually that huge in the sky. The photographer used a long telephoto lens from far away, compressing the perspective so the distant Moon appears dramatically large compared with the basilica and mountain. The image was later selected by NASA as its Astronomy Picture of the Day on December 25, 2023. 🌌 Six years of planning. Five failed attempts. One perfectly timed moment. This is what happens when astronomy, geography, photography, and patience line up. ✨ 📍 Turin, Italy 📸 Valerio Minato 🌕 Moon + Monviso + Basilica of Superga Would you have the patience to wait six years for one photograph? 👇 #Space #Astronomy #Moon #Astrophotography #NASA
