@thequeenmakerofficial: There's a version of him that exists only in her head. Strong. Unshaken. A knight in shining armor who worships the ground she walks on and never runs out of capacity to give. That version isn't real. No human is built to be that, indefinitely, without cost. But if she's built her expectation of "happy relationship" around that character, he's left with two options: expose the truth and risk losing the relationship, or protect the character and quietly absorb the pressure alone. Most men choose the second option. He can't tell her what he's actually carrying, because the moment he does, he stops being the knight and starts being a person — and she was never given room to want the person, only the character. This is where the lie starts. Not malicious, not even fully conscious. She lies to herself about what he's capable of sustaining. He helps her lie, because the truth would cost him the relationship she's willing to have. Neither person set out to build something dishonest. They built it because reality was never allowed to enter the room. A relationship built on a character instead of a human being can survive for a long time. It just can't survive on truth.
