Hours later, Ruth allegedly threw her 4-year-old son, Vincen, into the water. He did not survive. Investigators also allege that Ruth drove a golf cart carrying her three older children into the lake. Fortunately, all three children escaped. When emergency responders arrived, Ruth reportedly made statements indicating she believed she was acting according to divine direction. Divers later recovered the bodies of Marcus and young Vincen. Ruth was charged with multiple offenses, including murder, assault, child endangerment, and domestic violence. In March 2026, a judge found her not guilty by reason of insanity after mental health experts concluded that a severe mental illness prevented her from understanding the wrongfulness of her actions at the time of the incident.
