one artist covered my marks from my abusive relationship, he asked for the name of the guy who did it…next day i got a voicemail from an unknown number, it was my ex saying how he couldn’t believe i sent a group of men to jump him…i knew nothing but i thank that artist every single day.

My tattoo ended up being bigger than I thought and went into the cracks of my leg by my girl hood and my tattoo artist put a towel between his arm and my vagina bc the angle he kinda had to have his arm near to spread the skin, and anyway he asked for consent he allowed me to place the towel and before even touching my leg he walked me thru his hand placement and what he was doing, he asked me frequently if I was okay, comfortable, etc. he even locked the door so no one could just walk in and see me in a kind of vulnerable position (legs spread in my undies) and ofc he asked before locking the door if I was comfortable with it and informed me that at any point he can unlock it.

A lot of people in these comments do not seem to understand that if you fall asleep they HAVE to wake you up to check on you and make sure you didn’t pass out, if you did they are not able to continue your tattoo

for my 18th bday tattoo my artist only let the women artists and the owner (who i trusted and is my friends artist) in and still kept me behind the cover with a blanket and nip covers ANDDDDD when i went in for a different tattoo after i opened up about my SA he had his girlfriend sit next to me the whole tattoo and closed the shop.

When I got my throat tattoo, my artist made it a point to tell me “I may be pushing down to pull the skin. If at any point you feel like you can’t breathe or feel otherwise uncomfortable, tap my arm and I’ll stop immediately so we can reset.” He also stopped every few minutes to make sure I wasn’t in a fawn response and would advocate for myself if need be.

I almost passed out getting my septum done, it was my fault I didn't eat before🤪, the only reason the piercer touched me was to make sure I didn't fall out of the chair🤷♀️

My old tattoo artist, would have me write out my written consent to continue tattooing me if and when I fall asleep. She did this as a safety measure bc I have seizures, heart problems, and multiple sleeping disorders. The one way I would get good sleep is by getting a tattoo done. If I had a bad seizure or my heart decided to act up or I had slept to the point of worry and she had to call for help, she made sure she had that written consent bc she’s been in situations where she didn’t have that and got accused of things. So, 100% agreed. Do not touch someone if they are unconscious unless you have written consent (or a verbal consent in a video).

Yuuupppp!!!!! I fell asleep once and my artist knows I usually do, but I didn't tell him this time I just fell asleep and he woke me up so fast saying "wait are you going to sleep again? Hold on I want written consent that I can still tattoo you asleep"

I fell asleep during my very first tattoo. My artist woke me up immediately and asked if I was ok. She was very sweet and after making sure I was alright and I was ok with it, I fell right back to sleep. Meanwhile this tattoo- I was feeling dizzy and sickly and almost passed out. He didn't finish this piece but said he would once it was healed. This was years ago but I still haven't gotten it finished. I don't know. It's a nice reminder of how important consent is across any space.

I wish I knew this. I feel asleep during a tattoo, my tattoo artist took pics of me, I guess his girl saw it and assumed I slept with him for a tat and tried fighting me. 😭 I never fought before I was so scared
