omggg this literally happened to me the other day 😭 someone messaged me through my business number wanting to order a cake and cupcakes for their mom’s 50th birthday. they wanted an 8” cake and 4 dozen cupcakes and everything was so normal. they were super detailed about what they wanted, i sent them a bunch of inspo pics, they picked one, and everything was fine. then i sent my deposit info and told them i only take e-transfer and suddenly they’re talking about sending me a cheque and asking what bank i use because they needed my bank info 😭 like??? this has happened to me multiple times now and it’s crazy because they’ll literally go through the whole ordering process and seem like a completely normal customer until it gets to the payment part.

Yes as a graphic designer its tough too!! My friend sent over an inquiry she didn’t have time for (after they asked if she knew anyone else??) and it was a whole fleshed out project! Was super excited for the project and sent a long email response just to Google them after and find out it was a scam via reddit. 😭

Yes or they send you an email that they are trying to send you money but their bank won't let them send and that you have to call.

Yesss! It’s so annoying. I waste so much time researching cake designs and totaling up the cost, just to realize it’s a scammer. 😩 There are two ways I immediately know I’m dealing with a scammer: 1. When I send them my menu, and they constantly ask for things that aren’t even on my menu. 2. When it’s time for them to send the deposit, they’ll say something like, “I just sent the deposit. It’s saying that you have to accept the money via text since it’s my first time sending money to your business account.” At that point, I already know exactly what’s going on. 😂

it's even worse when it's local businesses trying to get your prices, fake an order just to waste time and ghost or send their cronies in to get my cakes and bring it back to them. incredibly frustrating! I would call them out but my brain is like wwjd?
