During the 𝘍𝘶𝘶𝘥𝘩𝘢 of 𝗝𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗮𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗸𝗸𝘂𝘂, the customs move deeper into the bride’s home following the groom’s arrival with his family, elders and entourage. Here, the traditional exchanges and ceremonies associated with receiving the groom unfold, including the presentation of customary items such as 𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘰(coffee berries) and 𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘰(tobacco). The family also observes 𝘉𝘶𝘯𝘢 𝘘𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘢, (ritual preparation of coffee) one of the enduring rituals associated with Borana social and ceremonial life. Jaarraa and those accompanying him remain at the bride’s homestead through the night as both families observe the procedures that precede the bride’s eventual departure from her parental home the next morning.
