@meghannmcuniff: A lawyer for the holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy's trial said today he being targeted "because his his decision and his his vote was different than everyone else." "Jurors should not have to worry about coming in and having them outed because they take a stance different than everyone else," Heather O'Connor told reporters outside Plymouth County Superior Court in Massachusetts, where Clancy appeared in court this morning for a status conference and motion hearing. O'Connor said her client wants privacy. When a reporter asked, "Anthing else?" she said, "Justice for the children," referring to 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan, who were strangled in their home on Jan. 23, 2024. Clancy's lawyer Kevin Reddington is seeking the juror's phone records, which O'Connor said she's objecting to through her motion that seeks the documents "that the defense is utilizing in order to obtain my client's information." "The way that the jury system works, and within our Sixth Amendment constitutional rights, jurors should be able to come in, take the evidence in front of them and make a decision based on the judge's direction and that evidence. That's what he did. That's supposedly what everyone did. However, he's the only one being targeted here because his decision and his vote was different than everyone else's," O'Connor said. Clancy case is "extremely ... divisive." "There's there's people that believe heavily one way or another, and what that has done is created a situation where somebody that has that minority vote is being attacked, and that is not how this system should work," O'Connor said. Asked about the note revealing the 11-1 split, O'Connor said her client "believes in our justice system." "He believes in the process. So if that was part of the process of how that was supposed to be, he stands by that. But what happened after, with the information coming out, his information coming out, him being singled out, him being targeted, that's a problem, and that's a different story than the the process actually happening like it's supposed to," O'Connor said. #law #crime #court
