Please, all women in the world international women’s rights organizations to stand in solidarity with women in Iraq and support their fight for justice and equality. A new law, known as the Jaafari Personal Status Code, has been introduced in Iraq, raising serious concerns about women’s rights and legal protections. We urgently appeal to women’s rights organizations around the world to support Iraqi women and advocate for their rights, dignity, equality, and protection under the law. We ask the international community to listen to the voices of Iraqi women and stand with them in their pursuit of justice and equal rights. To everyone with a voice, to everyone with the power to do something for women in Iraq and contribute to change: Please, let my voice reach women's rights organizations. Imagine being born into a life that feels like a prison. Imagine being taught that your entire existence must revolve around a husband and child—that your worth is measured by how well you please them, how silently you endure the unbearable, and how much of yourselves you are willing to sacrifice. And then, the very child to whom you have dedicated your life can be taken from you. In my country, women have been given only a tiny space to live as human beings. We are expected to be mothers, wives, and caregivers before we are allowed to be individuals with our own dreams, choices, voices, and lives. And now, even motherhood itself can be taken from us. How much more must women lose before the world listens to us? Please, hear our voices. Please, help us be seen.
