Most of the comments I've seen from men on that graphic are more like " I'm not going to put my life on the line. I'm not going to get killed over some stranger I don't know." Similarly, they still think it's some life or death situation every time. Meanwhile, I have intervened multiple times by putting my body in front of someone else to protect them from men (while other men stood by and did nothing). This is an act that is not unfamiliar to many women. Many of us have saved ourselves many times over as well.

Intervening is creating an unsafe space for the behavior that enables abuse, not just the abuse itself but the on-ramps to it. Letting misogynists and “devil’s advocates” know they aren’t safe in your company is paramount. It’s why I can’t stand people who identify with moderate, centrist thinking. If everyone’s invited to your table then not everyone is safe at your table.
