I have both an adult son and a teenage daughter, so I’m looking at this from both sides. My son knows I would never tolerate him being involved in something like this—there would be serious consequences, no ifs, ands, or buts. The same expectations apply to my daughter. I would teach her to recognize situations that could put her safety, reputation, or well-being at risk and to make careful choices. That doesn’t excuse anyone else’s wrongdoing or mean someone deserves to be harmed. But as parents, we need to teach both our sons and our daughters about accountability, boundaries, respect, and making safer choices. We need to teach our kids better.
