@slava_ukrain3_brothers: ✈️—[INCIDENT REPORT // AIR DEFENSE SECTOR]—✈️ Ukrainian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon multirole fighter jet executes a precision air-to-air interdiction against a Russian "Geran-5" / Shahed-type kamikaze loitering munition over Ukraine. Micro-Detail Intel: • Delivery Platform & Engagement Vector: The F-16 pilot closes distance into a visual tail-chase engagement envelope, utilizing aircraft radar and optical tracking to align with the low-flying kamikaze drone. • M61A1 Vulcan Rotary Cannon: Rather than expending a high-cost air-to-air missile, the pilot fires a rapid burst from the internal M61A1 20mm six-barrel Gatling cannon (firing up to 6,000 rounds per minute). • Terminal BDA [Battle Damage Assessment]: Multiple 20mm high-explosive incendiary rounds strike the target, causing immediate fuel and warhead detonation in mid-air. The asset is completely compromised, leaving an expanding smoke plume as falling debris dissipates. Hardware & Cost Asymmetry Analysis: • 20mm M61 Vulcan Cannon Burst Ammunition Expenditure: $3,000 / €2,640 / £2,250 (~110 rounds fired) • Russian "Geran-5" Kamikaze Loitering Munition: $40,000 / €35,200 / £30,000 • Financial Asymmetry ROI [Return On Investment]: 13.3 : 1 Ratio ($40,000 / €35,200 / £30,000 asset denial vs $3,000 / €2,640 / £2,250 ammunition cost). • Operational Value: Substituting cannon fire for an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile ($400,000 / €352,000 / £300,000) yields a ~133:1 missile preservation savings ratio. How do you evaluate the tactical viability of using fighter jet rotary cannons versus ground-based SHORAD [Short-Range Air Defense] systems for mass drone interdiction?
