@itssharmin_: Seville, Spain 🇪🇸 28/09/26. I stumbled across one of the housing protests taking place across Spain, calling for action on the housing crisis, rising rents and the pressure tourism and short-term accommodation can place on housing. When I approached two protesters to ask what the protest was about, I jokingly asked, “Am I the problem?” They both said, “Sí.” 😭 One of them explained that the issue isn’t necessarily tourism itself, but the need for greater balance and regulation so that local communities aren’t pushed out of their own neighbourhoods. Protests were taking place across Spain, with demonstrators even setting up camps in Madrid and here in Seville. A pretty confronting thing to hear as a tourist but also an important reminder that we need to think about how and where we travel, and the impact we can have on the places we visit. 🌍 #housingcrisis #protests #youth #inflation #tourism
