I worked at a vet clinic, and a guy with a very thick Hispanic accent had a pug. when checking him in for the first time I asked him what his dog's name was. "fatso!" I clarified a few times, and I was like... weird thing to name ur dog but wtv. I called this man's dog fat-so for over a year and he never corrected me. when he was waiting in the lobby with a bunch of other pet owners, to call someone back to the dr you always did it by the pets name, so I'd be yelling "fatso!" to call him back...😬 one day he came in and I just asked "why did you name him fatso? he's not fat?" And the man said "no,no,no,no, his tail looks like a pretzel. I named him pretzel" I felt horrible 😱

My Chinese dad would always call this one area Air button. And for years I thought it was the actual name, one day I ask where actually is air button, and my mom says no he means Alberton . We live 15 minutes away from Alberton, I thought air button was a completely different place. 😂😂😂

I called my piano teacher Mary for 8 years. Her name was Mae Lee. She just had a really thick accent. I found out during one of our last lessons. I wanted to run into traffic. I wanted to start a new life with a new identity. Sometimes when Im trying to fall asleep I remember that I called her Mary and she mightve thought I was making fun of her and it literally keeps me awake 25 years later. I don't know why she didn't correct me. God. WHYYYYYYY

my mom is a native English speaker but she's Canadian and I grew up calling flip flops "thongs". was very embarrassing to learn thongs mean something different when I was in middle school 😂
