CALEB FLYNN IS GUILTY — BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ALLEIGHA BOTNER NOW? This is something I think we’re going to hear A LOT about after this verdict. Because like her or not, Alleigha Botner just became famous. Her face and name have been everywhere. Her private messages were read to the world. She testified for two days in one of the most talked-about murder trials happening right now — and her testimony became a HUGE part of the story. And now that Caleb Flynn has been convicted, I would not be surprised at all if the offers start coming. Interviews. Podcasts. Documentaries. Maybe eventually a book. And yes — potentially money. That’s going to make a LOT of people angry. Because I’ve read your comments all week. Many of you believe Alleigha should have been charged too. People heard her own words read in court: “I want to kill her, Caleb.” And Caleb responded: “That makes two of us.” She admitted sending Caleb information about permanently deleting messages because she was worried about her reputation. She initially wasn’t completely truthful with investigators about their relationship. And we heard more than 100,000 messages between the two discussed during this trial. (ABC11 Raleigh-Durham⁠) But here’s the other side of it: Alleigha also sent messages telling Caleb she was NOT asking him to take Ashley’s life, testified that when she said she wanted Ashley “gone” she meant divorce, eventually told investigators the truth about the affair, and ultimately testified against Caleb in open court. (CBS News⁠) And as of today, Alleigha Botner has not been charged with a crime. (People.com⁠) So we’re left with a really uncomfortable possibility: Caleb Flynn could spend the rest of his life behind bars. Ashley Flynn is gone. Her daughters will grow up without their mother. And Alleigha — whose own ugly words and actions became part of this story — could potentially walk away from this trial with a level of fame she never had before and opportunities to tell her story. Should someone be able to profit from telling their story when their own behavior became such a significant part of a murder trial — even if they were never charged with a crime?
