The system has socialized women for centuries to go from main character to become supporting character once married. Thus most women taught that our only purpose is to become support system for our husband. And a mother. Throughout centuries, women that wanted something different will be berated by the society by calling them selfish, "no wonder no man wants you", etc. Also being socialized to want marriage & motherhood as the pinnacle of happiness for women.
