Skyler :
Sorry this is so long 😭 but I really needed to vent
He always told me how badly his exes treated him, so I made it my mission to love him in every way they never did. I was patient, forgiving, and understanding, even when I was the one breaking inside. He was the first boy I ever truly loved, and I gave up so much of myself trying to make him happy that I slowly lost who I was. I gave up parts of myself I never wanted to give up, things I swore I would never sacrifice. But I did it all for him because I loved him that much. And now, those are pieces of me I can never get back. I communicated, cried, and believed every promise of change because I loved him enough to keep hoping. I spent so long trying to show him what real love looked like that I forgot I deserved to experience it too. I wanted to be the girl who finally loved him right, but I ended up losing myself trying to love someone who wouldn’t stop hurting me.
Now we’re broken up, and the most confusing part is that he still tells me he loves me and wants me, even though he was never willing to do what it took to keep me. I never asked for perfection, just consistency, consideration, and a boyfriend I didn’t have to beg to act like one. He disappeared when I needed him most, justified his absence, and somehow made me feel guilty for crying over the very things he did to hurt me. No matter how many times I tried to explain my feelings, there was always an excuse, but never lasting change. Now he’s not my boyfriend anymore, yet he still treats me like I belong to him. He chases me around, tells me he loves me, and threatens any guy who tries to get with me. He still wants the privilege of having me, without having to do the things that made me feel loved in the first place. And I think that’s what hurts the most: he doesn’t want to let me go, but he wasn’t there when I needed him to hold on
