I’m tired of this take on mothers. Like males, who are suddenly so eager to claim they have no responsibility in raising their children when that child turns out to be a sociopath/predator/criminal, this take places the entire blame for the child’s outcome on the mother’s shoulders, and throwing in a quick, rushed “I’m not saying it’s just mothers” doesn’t negate that. This take, once again and as always, gives the males (who in this scenario should be equally responsible) a free pass, and the mother takes the entire burden - like she has for everything, from the moment her child was conceived. That’s not to disagree that there are some weird af boy mums out there, and bad mums in general, and I’m not saying mothers shouldn’t be called out when necessary, I’m saying we need to start actively considering and asking about the impact fathers have on their children, because let’s be realistic here, where/how are males learning to be predatory? Who are the role models for predatory behaviour? Every single comment section about a male who has done something heinous (not just in this case, in every case) will have multiple people asking “where is/was the mother?! What kind of mother raised him?!”, we need to start asking “where/who did they learn this behaviour from?! What kind of father taught him it was okay to treat women and girls that way?! Wasn’t his father around to teach him this behaviour isn’t okay??” as well.
