there's a quote I can't remember where I got it from but: “sometimes trauma doesn't make you a better person. sometimes trauma just makes you mean.” obviously it's on a much greater scale in terms of this genocide, but I think about it a lot because it applies in both an individual and a collective sense.

I remember Kitty Hart talking about how she got freed from Auschwitz and only when she was stood in front of a scared family with a knife in her hand, that if she now attacked them, the nazis would have won. They would have erased her humanity. She decided in that moment to be human. Cool documentary you can watch on youtube where she returns to the memorial to talk about her experience.

Yes! As a ptsd-survivor I have told multiple people this! I am not who I am because of my traumas. I am not a better person because of it. But I am proud of what and who I’ve made myself in spite of it.

Western media keeps claiming it’s the government, not the people, but then I watch the news in Hebrew, my blood starts to boil. Are they even living in the same world as us? There isn’t a two week stretch where someone isn't attacked just for being Arab, whether they're working or walking down the street. and that is inside the borders.

Sometimes, when you are damaged, you stay broken. I do not believe in much these days, let alone spiritual claptrap that seeks only to justify and never to rectify the endless suffering of innocents. But I do believe we carry a certain degree of moral stain for what we permit to happen. May the ghosts of Gaza’s children haunt us forever. A roll of the dice and that could have been my baby under the rubble, where I break the flesh of my hands to find him. Thank you for your words. I wish they could bring even one child back.
