@emmaskies: This isn’t productive or helpful or, I don’t know, anything at all. Might leave it, might delete, maybe it never comes out of the drafts, but I find myself just so incandescently angry that Jane Doe had to live through this because no one cared enough when it was my generation speaking up or when it was the women before me or the women before them. The same things happen over and over and over again and we applaud courageous women for being brave enough to stand up for themselves and for each other and then the world just waits until it thinks no one is looking and goes back to doing absolutely nothing about it.
I went to a really small college and I was in a sorority. Several of our sisters and I had to have the sex talk with one of the younger girls because she literally knew nothing. That’s not an exaggeration. I had people tell me it wasn’t our business to do it. We were terrified something would happen to her and she wouldn’t understand what it was and she wouldn’t be able to tell.

They have made 27 seasons of law and order SVU and, while sensational, nothing on that fictional show is surprising or unrealistic

My high school made seniors watch this documentary in health class and have group discussions about the realities of SA on college campuses and I think that was one of the most important parts of my public education curriculum

I remember watching this in college too. I shouldn't feel "lucky" that I made it through college without being SA'ed. I did a lot of volunteer work on campus to educate the community about SA and consent and 🍇 culture and I feel like no one paid any attention if nothing has changed in over a decade 😔

everyday I hear of another time that is "the most dangerous time of our lives" seems like it's just our life at this point and it's heartbreaking and infuriating because when can we just exist?

As a mother to a 13yr old girl, the fear of her being assaulted is something I’ve lived with every day of her life. But as she gets older I know I won’t be there to rescue her from a situation and what is even more terrifying is that I don’t think anyone will protect her.

We should *all* be angry and sad and scared that this happens. And likely happens far more than we'll ever know. We as men *have* to do more, have to do better. Because it's not enough to wring our hands and shake our heads. We need to call out rape culture, misogyny and put the men around us on blast. Men are failing the women around us and it's not good enough. Not even close. The bar is in hell and we can't even step over it at this point.

one of my favorite professors in college was mentioned in this documentary. she was dismissed from her job because she was advocating for student survivors of sexual assault.

They don't want women to attend higher education. Keep us uneducated with lower income potential & give us fewer choices to escape teen marriage & babies

and these ‘boys’ go on to become DAs who refuse to prosecute or recommend against jail time because “what about his promising future” and politicians who legislate to control women’s bodies and eventually Supreme Court justices who overturn roe vs wade and presidents who redefine title IX to make it even harder for anyone not a cisgender white man to be safe.

Nothing makes me more angry than the "why should his future be destroyed over a single mistake" argument. It's just so blood boiling stupid. It's literally an argument from "I don't care about the future of this woman, but I do care about the future of this a-hole boy."
