if you ACTUALLY know how things work, then you know that it is completely fine to use. The way it goes on, it is literally impossible to accidentally come off unless the hitch is already compromised and would come off anyway

I know that company weight safe sells them because their hitches only have one ball. It’s called the clam shell

I’ve used one before they’re fine. I wouldn’t use it on a super Rusty hitch and I also wouldn’t toe really heavy with it. I personally would be worried about that hinge being squished and then just not able to get it off of your hitch. I have no concern safety wise. That’s the only concern I would have.

If you use it to move trailers that would be fine.

Is it worth adding another failure point?

So there's a reason why there's different sizes. You're a hitch, has a square. That size less square means how much that car is rated for and there's a max size a ball for rating too. To have used a too small of a ball, and you enlarge it for a too heavy of a load. You can snap the ball off

I’ve used it before many many times, it’s safe and legit. I wouldn’t personally do anything heavy on it, like over 8-10k but good for needing a 2’ 5/16 in a pinch

Only thing that is good for is to move trailers on a lot of, could be easier , but grease will make it a mess , if used on the roadways it creates a safety risk , as a 2 in ball does not have the rating of a 2 5/16 , the ball size has less to with that rating than people think
