Fun fact: there is no machine for crochet like there is for knitting. Anytime you see a crocheted garment or blanket or anything anywhere, it was made by someone.

exactly. things should be expensive because they're created exquisitely, not because it has a name attached

Sure, I’ll take this dress! Also, kinda love that about love shack fancy. They got a lot of hate for being advertised by influencers

I crochet, I charge a minimum of $25 and hour + materials and people bitch it's too expensive but it's wear and tear on our body and it's a skill I took years to get good at

Are you familiar with Alabama Chanin? The garments are hand made and their goal is to have zero waste. The items are pricey but for a good reason.

paying local livable wages is what's sustainable for the world. I'm an old and remember what was normal before global supply chain garment manufacturing existed. we had fewer clothes because they cost more. second hand was more normalised, because clothing wasn't disposable in cost or quality

if it's expensive because it's ethical and the workers are getting paid, then it's not expensive it's priced at market value for the labor, if it's expensive because they slapped a name brand label on it and that's it, then miss me with that

My daughter is a print artist. When she was a student she was working on a very detail Intaglio print. A friend of her professor came to visit and loved her print. She inquired on the price which was 70.00 dollars. The woman felt that was too high. Her professor asked “how much do you pay to have your car detailed”? 150.00 for an hour. He pointed out that she had over 12 hours in making this print. Therefore a damn good deal.

Real quality costs. Problems is that we have become used to cheap and disposable. I’d rather buy a very few things that will last. Again, like you said, better, not perfect… 🥰🥰🥰

and if wages had kept up with inflation over the last 6 decades, 300 some odd dollars wouldn't be that expensive.

Quality costs money, but there a point where the amount of extra money you spend doesn't result in an appreciable increase in quality.

Things like this should cost money. Brand labels being more valuable than work/workers is wild. People bitching about indie /sustainable brands is wild. (Nothing against the person who suggested love shack fancy maybe they didn’t know) just the fact that they’re often under more scrutiny than the big brands boggles my mind.

Exactly! A lot of these top designers who make massively expensive products that ppl buy use the same slave labor as Target. That's not worth the price they charge.
