Hear me out. Year 1 - you build the basics of the business. Year 2 - you learn the ins and outs of your industry through trial error, mentorship’s, collaborations etc. Year 3 - you finally START to realize what you want out of your business and which opportunities are worth it and which deserve a graceful no. Year 4 - you start to pursue the opportunities that actually ignite your soul and passion in the first place. Year 5 - you begin to see the seeds that you’ve sown actually bring about fruition. I was actually thinking about this not that long ago. I think all of us have different metrics for success. I’m one of those small businesses that has never gone viral, not every launch sells out in mere hours, and my growth seems to be much slower than others, but I try hard to not let comparison steal my joy. But I also think about all the times that customers have reached out to me, have shared a part of their souls to me, have looked to my business to get something that they knew would bring them a little bit of solace when they’re going through a difficult time or for their loved ones… what an absolute honor to be considered in those moments. And sometimes that makes me realize that perhaps I’m more successful than I think I am.
