@calmmoneycoach: WHICH PROVINCE COSTS YOU THE LEAST?
If you could pick any province, which one would cost you the least? I ran all 10 through my calculators. 1. On tax, BC and Alberta cost the least and Nova Scotia the most. On a $100,000 salary that's about $6,500 a year apart. Retired on $55,000, it's about $2,900. 2. Rent usually moves your money more than tax. Move from Halifax to Vancouver on $100,000 and the higher rent takes almost all of the tax saving. 3. Probate on $1,000,000 is about $16,000 in Nova Scotia, $525 in Alberta and nothing in Manitoba. If you're staying put, name beneficiaries and price your drug plan before 65. Which province should get its own video first? The calculators are in my paid community at calmmoneycoach.com General education only. 2026 figures. #personalfinancecanada #canadiantaxes #costofliving #probate #retirementcanada

In Alberta you pay A LOT for utilities and insurance. It may take people by surprise…

Did you take having children into account? Québec is by far the best place to raise a family in North America. Very generous paid parental leave (the RQAP pays much more than EI), far more $9.65 childcare spots available (even private daycare spots net to around that after taxes), extra top-ups to CCB (the Québec Family Allowance), dirt cheap post secondary education, and I could go on.

Property tax. I spend the winter in Victoria. The property taxes in Nova Scotia are insane. Far higher than Victoria. Then, heating costs…. It’s incredible what you can save in heating costs.

NB is expensive !!!! I live here. Lived in Alberta for years and it’s way less expensive than NB! I’m definitely considering moving back.

Using Vancouver’s rent $$ isn’t completely accurate. BC has many well populated areas other than BC where housing is much more affordable.

In Ontario I have friends who have left Toronto for far smaller places in more rural areas of the province, some who have retired to Victoria (3 couples have apartments in the same building [Big LOL]) and two who moved to Mexico.

as a mortgage broker in nova Scotia the amount of change in just 5 years makes nova Scotia almost unrecognizable compared to the country. especially since most of nova Scotia is rural not urban.

Talks to much :
So essentially Alberta is the only answer!! We knew that’s why we moved here from NS 20 years ago…NS is the MOST expensive province to live in with the LEAST benefits and essentially no healthcare so being a retirement plan makes zero sense yet it’s full of retirees
