@meghannmcuniff: Rosemary Scapicchio and Andrew Meyer are attorneys in Massachusetts who represent Lindsay Clancy in her lawsuit against medical providers. They spoke outside the courthouse today (Tuesday, September 29) after Clancy's first court appearance since a judge declared a mistrial in her murder trial for killing her three children. Scapicchio said postpartum psychosis is a "psychiatric emergency" that deserves serious attention. "When you suffer from postpartum psychosis, it's an emergency. It's not a, you know, go in the waiting room and take a pill. That's not what happened here. It was a psychiatric emergency, and they ignored a psychiatric emergency," Scapicchio said. Medical providers who treated Clancy said she did not report symptoms consistent with psychosis before she was arrested for strangling her children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan on Jan. 24, 2023. Her psychiatrist saw her 14 times by video, including the day before the killings, but never in person. Scapicchio said today, "This is what happens when you ignore postpartum mental health, when you ignore postpartum psychosis, when you ignore when you ignore psychosis. As far as Lindsay is concerned, none of this had to happen if they didn't ignore her. It was a psychiatric emergency, and they treated it like it was a regular visit to the to the doctor." Clancy's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 2. Judge William Sullivan has not yet scheduled a date for her second trial after her first trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after the jury deadlocked 11-1 in favor of not guilty.

Civil case is going to be horrible because the doctors also get use evidence the criminal trial wouldn’t allow. So it’s not one sided we may find out things we never knew before so it’s not going to be all good for her.
