get the chickens in the spring! winter makes it difficult for first time chicken owners and trying to figure out what works best for them so i recommend spring so you can get into a routine before winter!

Definitely wait on the chicks until early spring! Then they should start laying late summer and you’ll have the routine down before the cold hits 🥰

you can have chickens in winter but you’ll need to either build or buy a really sturdy, insulated coop for them, either with a heat source inside or pressed against your house for extra warmth, and you’ll have to reinforce it so that wild animals seeking heat & food aren’t able to break or burrow in to eat the chickens

Put some kinda of hydration packet in your water at the beginning of your shift and make sure you finish it by the end! Like 32oz at least that should help the headaches! (Ex waitress)

You could have chickens during the winter, but it’s gonna be hard because you have to waterproof it. It’s more of a struggle spring would be better and you’ll be prepared. Where are you getting the chicken coop & run?

So chickens don’t produce a lot during the winter. When you first get chicks I suggest you have a bruder box where you keep the chicks inside till they get old enough to go outside. It’s about when the peeping turns into a normal chicken sound. So winter might be a good time to get them to have the chick grow inside as when spring arrives they can go outside. A few things to mention would be chickens have extremely sensitive stomach and their diet needs to change with the seasons. Do tour research!!!! Chicken sound easy but can be difficult at times. My mother in law treats her chickens as pets so her care of them is top notch. Things to get to start off would be chickens flake you can get more things at tractor supply. If you plan on having the chickens out in the old I suggest a radiant heat lamp. When you have the chickens out side I suggest a chicken run connected to the coop you could make a frame from wood and use chicken wire. To keep the coop want in the winter time you could cover the ru with plastic using the green house affect. Note as well you want to find a place that has the most sun but also have a balance of shade for the warmer months. When your chickens start producing eggs keep the shells and you can cook them and grind them down into a powder and feed them back to the chickens is added in egg production. You can also use the powdered egg shells in your garden to help grown strong and health plants. Any house hold scraps such as vegetables and most fruits can be given to the chickens as snacks. Just make sure to research what food chickens can have in difference seasons. Also remember that chickens stomachs are very sensitive so if you are feeding them produce wash it very very good. Also chickens LOVE KALE if you can grow it I would because you will go through it a lot. Also blueberries are your friends. But overall chickens are so fun to have!! If you want chickens you can pick up, Handel them a lot when they are chicks.
