@guidedinspiration: I’m primarily addressing the moms because that’s what’s on my feed and not to my audiences but Dads, you are not exempt from this conversation. And while we’re at it, let’s include the administrators the board of trustees and anybody else who thinks that exceptional grades makes you an exceptional person. #cornell7
my brother would do it, he used to send me out of the house in the middle of the night alone everytime he'd get drunk, my mom never believed it when she heard it from people who'd rescue me and still refuse to talk about it today, moms are the biggest enablers and I hate her

Agreed. On another note, why are we only talking about and referencing mothers having these conversations with their sons? Nobody says “parents” or “fathers” needing to have these convos. Women have to be responsible for making sure they’re not SA’d, but we also own the responsibility to teach sons not to do it. ALL responsibility is on us when it comes to SA in this world.

don't worry. I'm already terrified my son will be that guy.. so I'm already talking to him about what being a feminist means, what other forms of abūse looks like outside of just physical abūse, etc... I know I have to have these talks with him, mostly because of who his bio father is, and also he's a very tall white boy who will one day be a white man in this country... he's only 10 right now, so I'm doing my best to explain things in an age-appropriate way.

If they’re just now having these conversations, it’s already too late. As a SA survivor, all of the women in my family have been having these conversations with my son and nephews since they could walk and talk

Isn’t that something you’re inherently teaching your sons, as you raise them into good people? Are these women too scared to be an authoritative figure to their sons, and correct their shitty behavior towards women!! Stop the cycle, boy moms!

as a mother of two sons, I have been having this conversation with my two sons since they were 10 and 11. I never approached it like they would never do that. I approach it. What are the feelings that they feel like they wanna participate in something like that or worse ignore something like that. They are 20 and 22 now and we still talk about these types of scenarios all the time. That’s how I can protect the women in the world by making sure that I’m honest and having honest conversations with my sons. 🥰🥰

Parents don’t have enough power to protect their kids from becoming these kinds of evil men. You can talk yourself blue in the face but once patriarchal conditioning takes hold in boys’ teen years of individuation, especially if they have bad company they’re done. The real enemy is patriarchy

I have 3 sons and have been talking about consent since they could understand words. Things like don’t touch that persons arm/ear etc respect their space and their body.

When I was a kid in middle school the boys at church RELENTLESSLY bullied me. I would defend myself and dish it right back. Which one day lead to me busting some kid’s lip open. The following Sunday at church his mom screamed at me that I was a bully and the reason her son didn’t want to go to Sunday school anymore. No ma’am, he’s a coward and a bully. They themselves cannot take accountability let alone hold their sons to it.

Please tell me you understand no means no please tell me you understand if she’s unconscious that means no please tell me you understand if she’s intoxicated that means no please tell me you understand if she’s incapacitated that means no please tell me if you are aware of any situation like this that you wouldn’t sit by and do nothing my son is a freshman in college so much coming at him all the time every day and I’m having to have these conversations every day every other day it’s exhausting, but we gotta have them

Mothers (parents) can teach their sons respect, but MEN must also be prepared to challenge the culture that rewards disrespect and silence. In an environment where approval of their male peers is the doorway to their future … the vulnerable become forgotten casualties along the way.

Literally EVERYONE was in shock when I told them what "one of the good ones" did to me and my life. They believe me but they needed a minute to process that a standing member of the community did so much messed up sht to a good person. I've talked to my sons, in depth, about consent, respect, reciprocity, enthusiasm, trust, morals, integrity and safety. And not just once. Whenever a case like this comes up and there's another facet to go over, I go over it with them.

Literally has this conversation with my 13 yo son last night. I don’t like to think that he would be capable of doing something like that. But I also didn’t think the people who SA’d me were capable of doing that until it happened.
