How are the WestLaw-generated summaries even copyrightable if it’s a machine that’s generating it to begin with? Wasn’t there just recently a case about AI-generated art and it not being copyrightable? Only the prompts to generate said output are copyrightable.

the answer is no. because Westlake and Lexus charge a ton for their AI models, which are imperfect. So much higher price without much time savings.

much like the MLS is becoming almost public, but real estate agents have to pay to access it. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like this would have a similar foundation legally to gain access to it. we just need a Zillow equivalent.

If the business is paying for it then it should be able to use it after all isn’t that exactly what a human is doing (reading and then using that info)? I listen to audiobooks at above 100% speed so I finish books faster just like an AI would does that mean it’s illegal for me to use the knowledge from the books just because I listened to them faster even though I paid for the right to use the audiobook however I saw fit including say researching on how to make audiobooks as a direct competitor?

It’s happening in medicine. For years UpToDate charged an arm and a leg and now we have multiple medical AI programs that is more intuitive, gives more nuisance answers, and continuing education. It’s also hipaa compliant, links directly to the papers (not hidden behind paywalls), and is free.

Is RECAP still a thing? I remember using it a bit back when I wrote for a legal website (like 10 years ago), but it was always pretty spotty with what you could find.

I imagine with what we have now, it’s certainly possible, but could you imagine going to court representing yourself even in the most complicated scenario? And you’re able to bring in laptops and for AI to listen to everything and come up with every objection, come up with every question, figure out a way to discredit everything; it could be truly amazing. It could literally win any traffic ticket based on hundreds of technicalities. Also, it could create questions that are asked that are so perfect that you really can’t object, but yet it bends the entire scenario in a way that pushes out a really particular, unique response from the witness.
