I don't care if people have been dating carbon for 50,000 years, it ain't natural. /s

we have other dating methods. Creationists only bring up carbon dating because it is the only one that doesn't go back far enough to be relevant lmao

This is nonsense. 50,000 years ago humans had only just invented the bow and arrow. No way they knew how to do carbon dating.

and what's wild is that means Australia has land that has basically always existed. because once the rock cycles into magma, the radioactive clock resets. so finding that one rock in Australia was extremely lucky, or smart, more likely

Carbon dating is never used to date the Earth. Scientists use other radiometric clocks with much longer half-lives.

Small addition, we actually don’t need to know how much uranium or lead was in the original rock, because the product of the decay is radiogenic lead (a specific isotope), not naturally occurring lead. Additionally, we can concordia date using the two different uranium isotopes, and only if the ratios match the concordia curve is when we know the crystal stayed consistently in shape. And using the curve gives you the date, all without needing to know anything about the original amounts! (Although that could then be back calculated if you know how much radiogenic lead there is now)

i think young esrth creationists ignore that that carbon dating is the least used dsting method for deep time

But how can something be 50,000 years old when the Earth is only 6,000 years old according to the Old Testament?

Thanks for the video! It’s so exhausting that the anti-evolution crowd keep harping on the limitations of carbon dating. Like, we’re not denying those limitations. But why is carbon dating the only thing I ever hear them bring up? Either they don’t know about the other method is of dating, or they don’t want to.

They do not use carbon dating for old rocks. They use zircon dating

stuff like this is why colloquial naming is so important to get right in science and so easy to get wrong. Radiometric or radioactive dating being the popular term would help, though there's always people who'd simply ignore any evidence contrary to their world view, it'd still prevent the spread of bad evidence. Same story as climate change vs global warming, just on a smaller scale.

I also love the non radiometric dating systems that also back up the same dates. Like coral growth rings or continental shelf sublimation. (Watched the entire video)
